"A New Way To Bleed" (alternate legal title: New Way to Bleed[1]) is a bonus track on the deluxe edition of Evanescence's self-titled third studio album. It's one of the three songs on the album that feature harp.
The song was included on the compilation album Lost Whispers in 2016, as part of the The Ultimate Collection box set.
Meaning[]
Amy said in a Rockline Radio interview on October 17, 2011:
That was a song that Terry and I worked on together about a year ago. I think that song is the closest to sort of our moment from The Open Door. It's hard to explain exactly without pissing people off. I was sort of singing about the label not getting what we were doing, to be honest. "Is this the end of everything or just a new way to bleed?" Yes, it's a new way to bleed.[2]
The song may be connected to the fact that the band's label scrapped the original version of the third album,[3] thus forcing them to rewrite it, i.e. "a new way to bleed", meaning to compromise their artistry to meet the label's demands.

The suits had a change of heart during a frustrating recording process and I was told that none of the songs I'd been pouring my heart into for a year, in any form, were good enough -- time to start over. I was devastated. I was furious. I was determined to take control of the situation and use it to push myself forward. It ended up making me angry enough to write Evanescence's heaviest album -- which I love- -- and we did end up using three songs from the original project"
