"All That I'm Living For" is a song on Evanescence's second studio album, The Open Door. It was intended to be the third single from The Open Door, however after listening to requests by the band and fan reactions to the decision, the label chose "Sweet Sacrifice" in its place.[1] There also is an acoustic version of it.
Background[]
"All That I'm Living For" was co-written by guitarist John LeCompt, who is also credited for programming on the track, and it describes Lee's writing process at night which is present on the first line "All that I can't ignore alone at night/I can feel the night beginning/Separate me from the living."[2] It contains "power chords", elements of electronica, abrasive guitars and Lee's vocals.
In a Metal Edge interview in November 2006, Lee said:
The hard rocking All That I’m Living For focuses on the band itself. Its genesis came from a realization Lee had one day that her band was her life. "I don't do anything else," she says. "I'm writing for the band, touring for the band, doing an interview about the band, or thinking about the next thing I want to write. It’s my life, and I love it, but it’s a love/hate relationship."
The official instrumental leaked on June 3, 2021.
Acoustic Version[]
This is the acoustic version of this song. It is available only on the "Lithium" single disc.
There also is a video in which Amy performs this acoustic version. Former band member John LeCompt plays the guitar in it.
Lyrics[]
Album Version[]
All that I'm living for, all that I'm dying for I can feel the night beginning Piecing every thought together All that I'm living for, all that I'm dying for I believe that dreams are sacred Like a play of my obsessions All that I'm living for, all that I'm dying for Guess I thought I'd have to change the world All that I'm living for, all that I'm dying for Should it hurt to love you? Should I feel like I do? |
