"Anywhere" is the eighth track on Evanescence's demo album, Origin.

Background[]

Ben Moody is credited to have written this song for Origin along with Amy and David. David Hodges sings backup vocals. In an EvBoard interview, Moody called this among one of the least favorite songs he had ever written. The story of Romeo and Juliet - as well as the Claire Danes/Leonardo DiCaprio movie version of it - is often regarded as the inspiration for this song.

Many EvBoarders agreed that "Anywhere" would make a great wedding song.

Original versions of Origin feature an "Anywhere" outtake in which Hodges sings the chorus horridly. The outtake can be accessed by rewinding the CD from the 30-second "Origin" intro that starts the album.

In a Reddit AMA thread in 2016, Amy said that when she listens to the song, she can picture "a Renaissance fair date".[1]

The pre-release version of the song is 5:18 long, features Ben's backing vocals instead of David's and cuts the "yeah, yeah" outro.[2] The Origin vinyl features the official version, as part of the Ultimate Collection box set.[3]

Lyrics[]

Dear my love, haven't you wanted to be with me?
And dear my love, haven’t you longed to be free?
I can’t keep pretending that I don't even know you
And at sweet night, you are my own
Take my hand

We're leaving here tonight
There's no need to tell anyone
They'd only hold us down
So by the morning's light
We'll be half way to anywhere
Where love is more than just your name

I have dreamt of a place for you and I
No one knows who we are there
All I want is to give my life only to you
I've dreamt so long I cannot dream anymore
Let's run away, I'll take you there

We're leaving here tonight
There's no need to tell anyone
They'd only hold us down
So by the morning's light
We'll be half way to anywhere
Where no one needs a reason

Forget this life, come with me
Don't look back you're safe now
Unlock your heart, drop your guard
No one's left to stop you

Forget this life, come with me
Don't look back you're safe now
Unlock your heart, drop your guard
No one's left to stop you

We're leaving here tonight
There's no need to tell anyone
They'd only hold us down
So by the morning's light
We'll be half way to anywhere
Where love is more than just your name

[Yeah, yeah, yeah]Yeah, yeah, yeah [ah]
Yeah, yeah... yeah [yeah yeah] [ah]
Yeah, yeah... yeah [yeah yeah] [ah]
Yeah, yeah... yeah [yeah yeah] [ah]
Yeah, yeah... yeah [yeah yeah] [ah]

Outtake[]

[Drop] your guard
No one's left to stop you now

[-ow-ow-ow-ow-yeaaaaah yeah yeah] - David Hodges (singing horribly)

You're not saving that
...

...There's a lot of prejudice against the undead
