"Ascension Of the Spirit" is the first recorded instrumental ever made by Evanescence. The only official version of this track is 11:48 long and mostly consists of silence. It features a clip from the movie My Boyfriend's Back that starts at 3:00. The actual music starts around 8:19. When the song was re-distributed by unauthorized means, the silence and aforementioned audio sample were cut (3:15). Subsequently, the truncated version became more readily available to fans making the unabridged version difficult to come by.

A section of "Ascension Of the Spirit" can be heard playing at the end of the demo version of "Breathe No More".
