"Disappear" is a bonus track on the Deluxe Edition of Evanescence's self-titled studio album, Evanescence. The working title was “Release The Kraken" (“Kraken" for short).[1][2]
The final studio version was later added to the Lost Whispers compilation album, released in 2016.
Background
In a Rockline radio interview in 2012, Amy Lee said:
It’s about losing someone, you know, to giving up or an addiction, losing somebody, feeling like they’re slipping away and you want them back as a “hey, you can do it, get back up off the floor” kind of song.
On June 5, 2011, Amy uploaded on Twitter a video in which she plays piano notes from a new song,[3] which was later confirmed to be "Disappear." The Twitter video was filmed early in the song’s production and composed as a ballad.
Amy's description of the song taken from a track-by-track feature on Evanescence's deluxe edition bonus DVD:[4]
‘Disappear’ – I love that song – this is one of... Tim, Terry, and I wrote this one when we were in this actually really cool writing session where the three of us went to the middle of nowhere in California, like in the wine county. I think where we were staying didn’t even have a name, the town we were in. The nearest town was like 20 miles away. We wrote this song in this cliff. We rent this house for, I think, two or three weeks. That was one of the songs that I didn’t know if it was gonna make it. It was very different sound like in the chorus, the way that it sounds. I don’t know, I can’t really describe it, but it’s just a really different style vocally for me. But I loved it. I was just singing, you know, out of fun. It’s cool. It’s new when you start with a idea and you’re not sure about it, but the more you play with the band, it becomes something bigger and better.
Lyrics
Hollow, like you don’t remember me Don’t you want to feel? I can’t let you fall apart Don’t you want to feel? All alone, all alone and drowning in your past Don’t you want to feel? So give me something real |
