"Halfway Down the Stairs" is a cover song by Amy Lee that is featured on Muppets: The Green Album. The original song first appeared on The Muppets Show in episode 110 and was sung by Robin the Frog. The song's lyrics are taken from an A.A Milne poem of the same name.
Amy announced her cover via social media on September 22, 2009:
"Remember the Nightmare Before Christmas covers CD last year? They are making another one, this time it's Muppet songs... When they asked me if I wanted to do a song, I thought it was a really cool idea but I didn't think there would be anything that fit me... but right before saying no, I went online and listened to all the songs just in case anything sparked, and I found something... so Will Hunt (guy I did Sally's Song with) and I went completely crazy with it and it is really different and, I think, REALLY cool... I thought it was going to come out this year but I've just been told it's been pushed to spring, April I think... so we'll have to wait a little bit for it, but I think it's worth it. ;) I'm really excited about it!"
Amy's version contains electro-pop elements, a big influence on the conception of Evanescence's third album. She said the cover song served as "an appetizer" for the band's album that was originally intended for a Fall 2010 release. However, it was delayed because Wind-up Records rejected the material originally recorded in the initial sessions, making the band start over with a new producer and direction.
