The Open Door journal is a journal containing exclusive notes, handwritten lyrics and drawings made by Amy Lee during the conception of The Open Door. It was made available exclusively in October 2009 on the band's official paid forum, EvClub, which is no longer active.[1] It was possible to browse the 11 pages of the journal through the forum's gallery of images, which was used to upload a series of exclusive content.

This is what Amy wrote on January 10, 2010 in a post some time after the journal was published[2]:

Well, its really here. Somehow in the middle of laughing and playing and writing till morning all summer I looked up and realized it was the holidays, and I had a whole new album of crazy material on my hands. And now after a whirlwind of holiday chaos and cheer, I find it all creeping up on me again- we’re going into the studio next month, and I am so unbelievably excited. I am finishing up as many of the missing pieces as I can in my home studio before we begin in the real studio, so its kind of crunch time for me. I finished a song that I’m pitching for a film’s end title last night (don’t get too excited, I do this all the time and it never works, it will probably will just go on the album) and it feels amazing to be able to finally sit back and enjoy it, I’ve been stuck on it for months. Its really cool when a song is first demoed and I don’t know it by heart yet, its like listening to a new song by an artist I know but its extra weird because its my own voice. Anyway, I’m going to go make myself another coffee and get back to work while the getting is good. I’ll keep you guys posted! I’m glad you like the Open Door journal excerpts, I meant to have those up ages ago when the last album was fresh, but it is pretty fun looking back on it now while gearing up for the next one…. Talk to you soon!

love, Amy
